Final Assembly
Final assembly has the lowest level of automation – and the highest complexity. Hundreds of parts, thousands of variants, one single line. What humans can no longer check reliably, vision takes over.
In final assembly, vision systems ensure that every part is present, correctly positioned, and in the right variant when it reaches the vehicle. They continuously verify clips, sensors, trim parts, and safety‑critical components so that no hidden assembly errors reach the customer.
By measuring gap and flush, reading labels and VINs, and checking functional elements inline, vision creates a complete digital record of the finished vehicle. This enables targeted rework, stable ramp‑up of new variants, and consistent quality across all models on the same line.

Decades of Dedication

Pioneering progress through decades of experience.
01

Body positioning for robot processes

  • Along the entire assembly line, robots need to know the exact body position – for windshield installation, seat insertion, or door hanging.
  • One measurement, multiple applications – a single system guides several robot processes in the same station, flexible for mixed model production.
  • 3D position measurement of the body as reference for downstream robot operations, compensation of overhead conveyor variation.

02

Door hanging

  • Doors are painted separately and rehung onto the body at the end of the assembly line.
  • Tolerance compensation without mechanical fixturing, direct gap and flush feedback immediately after hanging.
  • Precise 3D position detection of door hinges and body apertures for robot-guided mounting.
  • Technology: BestFit / Sense&Place

03

Windshield & rear window installation

  • Windshields and rear windows are bonded in place by robot – the robot must guide the glass precisely into the body aperture.
  • Robot guidance and bead inspection combined in a single station, prevents sealing defects.
  • Position measurement of the body aperture, adhesive bead inspection before glass insertion.
  • Technology: BestFit / SpinTop

04

Body-to-chassis marriage

  • The most critical assembly step: body and chassis are joined and bolts are tightened automatically.
  • Millimeter-accurate alignment prevents stress and quality issues, equally applicable for combustion engines and BEV platforms.
  • Precise 3D relative position measurement between body and chassis before joining, verification after marriage.
  • Technology: BestFit

05

Seat installation

  • Seats are delivered just-in-sequence and inserted through the door aperture by robot.
  • Eliminates door trim damage from misguided seats, flexible for all seat and vehicle variants.
  • 3D detection of the door aperture and mounting points as guidance reference for the insertion robot.
  • Technology: BestFit / Sense&Place

Assembly verification

  • At multiple stations, it must be confirmed that all parts are present, correctly mounted, and in the right variant.
  • 100% inspection instead of sampling, AI-supported defect detection across high variant diversity, full traceability per vehicle.
  • Inspection of part presence, orientation, variant correctness, and correct assembly – from screws and clips to control units.
  • Technology: 3D + BK / BK

Gap & flush – body attachments

  • After mounting doors, hood, tailgate, and bumpers, joint quality is inspected – it determines wind noise, sealing, and perceived quality.
  • 100% inspection of every vehicle at line speed, direct rework feedback with exact defect localization.
  • Measurement of gap and flush at all relevant transitions on the vehicle.
  • Technology: FrameSense

08

End-of-line verification

  • Final completeness and function check before the vehicle leaves the line – headlights, sensors, chassis, electronics.
  • Digital birth certificate for every vehicle – all inspection results traceable and linked to the vehicle ID.
  • Final inspection of safety-relevant components, headlight alignment verification, VIN and label readability.
  • Technology: FrameSense
